VIDEO
Number 16 in my series of singles and videos.
Anything Can Shake Your Tree is the jazziest to date, featuring a brass section, percussion and jazz guitar.
It’s about a Shoeshine working in America, earning a nickel or dime to get by, and the line in the song “ Anything can shake your tree” really means anything can come along and change your circumstances, and how hard it was to earn a living in that era.
Set in the late 1930s, we used black and white archive footage for the backdrop to set the scene.
I play saxophone, guitar and keyboards in this video, we also had some great props for authenticity.
The style is very jazzy and musically there is a lot more going on than in my previous tracks, this song is also being released on limited edition 7” vinyl.
It has a sultry vocal, similar to Sade, and has an 80s sound and feel to it, this song has a male vocal part in it too.
For the solo on the piano I used a Roland Juno 106 synthesizer which was popular in the 80’s and I mixed it as a flute sound.
The other synth used was a Roland Jupiter 6, again a popular synth in the 1980s.
Percussion wise we used congas and a bell tree and Nigel my producer programmed the drums using a Roland TR 909 drum machine, triggering a Linn Drum LM2, both popular in the 1980s and very much used in the club dance scene today, both highly collectable and sought after!
We did this video in widescreen so I was able to play a few roles and appear as three of me at once, which we haven’t done before, I think it works ,as it gives enough room on the screen without cluttering the shot.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did recording and filming it.
Thanks for watching and listening, please consume my music !
