Cashback : Single & Video : Here is another one in the quirky song set of mine. Cashback is about how much we consume in life, not food but how many things we buy and are told we need to purchase. It tells the story of how much we spend constantly trying to keep up with everyone else, and how we thrive on gossip as a society, it’s all about how we continually spend, spend, spend.

The style is jazz/funk with a bit of 80s synth and electric piano in there. It works well for tap dancing and any kind of dance including the Charleston Stroll.

It has a sort of Osibisa feel to it and the middle eight is a bit Shakatak sounding, it’s also not dissimilar to Sade.

The track also focuses on the line For Sale, as everything out there seems to have a price on it, and it drives us all nuts, hence the line “sending us all round the bend”

The video covers prohibition and gambling, it is set as a Speakeasy, we have a roulette wheel, cards, money bags and wads of money, reinforcing the need to spend, it also has a Cab Calloway / Minnie The Moocher style to it and a hint of The Blues Brothers.

The sax solo also gives the song a real jazz club vibe.

This is the fifth song in the quirky series.

My favorite line is  “Chomping, churning more to own, the planet heaves another groan”, as it really is like that out there in today’s world where everything is consumable and instant to the point where the planet is full.

I enjoyed writing this and getting the style of the song, the costumes definitely give it a classy look, I hope you enjoy it.
