VIDEO
Charlie So Good is the A side of the Re-released vinyl single, it’s about the legendary jazz saxophonist Charlie Parker.
Charlie was nicknamed the “Bird”, and was a well-respected Jazz player who influenced and helped develop Be Bop, a fast tempo technique, which is why I wrote the chorus of the song in that style.
I suppose this track is a kind of homage to him.
The video goes from colour to black and white to try and get a feel of the 1930's America era, when Gangsters, Zoot Suits, The Mafia and Al Capone were prevalent.
The lyrics to the song are fairly simple but the music is more complex with a great saxophone solo played by Neil Woodcock.
The end is quite adlib vocally, which I think works well, it really explains the various towns and cities Charlie Parker was known in.
The video also has a very jazzy feel and look to it, I tried to keep it relatively simple, but classy with a lot of space.
I am not sure what band or tracks I could compare this too, I think vocally it sounds fairly Sade esque, and I guess the music itself has a definite Big Band horn section sound, probably my biggest musical influence being Big Bands.
This track sits well with a previous track of mine, Anything Can Shake Your Tree, it is probably my classiest to date, although visually I did keep my more funky image.
Anyway I hope you enjoy it.
