The final part of my quirky songbook collection, where I released one single and one video every month. This second Christmas song from the collection, It’s Christmas Time is completely different to the last one ‘Merry Christmas’, this is in 3/4 timing, so it has more of an anthem feel to it, and features the drums more than any of my previous recordings.

It is a sort of drinking song , I visualized it like the Pogues , but with a really large group of family and friends celebrating Christmas, with singing and dancing and toasting to celebrate this magical time of year.

The video does this well, it is very festive, everyone does hold a toast to “the spirit of life “,and a ‘drink to mankind’.

It’s an uplifting track, depicting a big family party, we even had a full, chef prepared, Christmas dinner for the video, with Turkey, sprouts and all the trimmings. No complaints from cast and crew!!!

The song also says “prey to the sinners, salvation within us, top up your glass with the spirit of life” in other words, celebrate life and enjoy it.

Another line says “we’re raising a glass to heaven and earth, toast to mankind, celebration of birth” so it is very fitting with the Nativity side of Christmas too.

The video has some great scenes, we enjoyed the snowball fight and all the festive toasting and of course the early Christmas lunch as we shot the video in September!

We even had Santa Claus, Father Christmas, join the shoot, handing out presents to everyone involved, the children especially enjoyed their Christmas gifts.

Christmas is a great season, full of spirit and fun, it has a hint of the Slade - Merry Christmas in it as well as the Miseltoe and Wine track.

The style is anthem/pop/waltz and very much a drinking song the oom pa pa kind of thing.

I did 12 drum parts on this to get the marching sound and overlaid 5 piano parts , including a grand piano , a Hammond organ and an electric piano. My saxophonist Neil Woodcock did an amazing Bagpipes impersonation too!
